Every behavior is a strategy. I see a body and brain doing the best it can with the skills and capacity it has in that moment, and then support you to grow into who you’re becoming.
I work with individuals, couples, and kids: with a special focus on ADHD, trauma, and addiction recovery.
Every behavior is trying to get a need met. When someone can’t focus, shuts down, blows up, or acts out: it’s their brain and body doing the best they can with what they’ve got.
Sometimes that’s about neurobiology we inherited. Sometimes it’s a stuck reaction that tries to save the day before you have time to make an actual choice. It might be a family pattern that got passed down and never got interrupted. And sometimes it’s a mismatch of our attempts at connection.
Whatever the cause, my job is to help you figure out what’s going on and help you build a life and relationships that actually work for you.
How I work:
DBT — practical skills for handling big survival strategies and increasing capacity to experience the complexity of life
EMDR — a way to process and integrate painful experiences, so you can be present for new experiences
IFS — understanding the different “parts” of yourself, especially the ones trying to protect you
Play and expressive arts therapy — for kids (and adults) to provide a pathway for how we experience and understanding our experiences that might be difficult to do with words
Interpersonal Neurobiology — sharing skills with parents to understand thier parenting reactions and increasing intentional choice in how they guid their kids.
If you’re a parent: I’ll help you understand what’s behind your child’s behavior, and give you real tools to respond instead of react — while giving your child a safe space to work through what’s going on.
If you’re a couple: I’ll help you slow down the conflicts and misconnection, understand what’s actually happening in your body and what state will help you work through a challenge and create connection
If you’re an adult: I’ll help you make sense of patterns that have followed you for years — where they came from, and how to finally shift them.
