Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an excellent option for people who suffer from depression, and it is an FDA-approved treatment for Major Depressive Disorder.
As Colorado’s largest provider of TMS, Family Care Center (FCC) has been at the forefront of this innovative therapy since 2016. FCC has completed more TMS mappings than any other provider in the state and consistently delivers above-average TMS outcomes and results using evidence-based treatment approaches alongside FDA-approved protocols.
As we expand to Tennessee and Texas, we bring these best practices and continue to measure the results of TMS outcomes for treating depression.
What is TMS?
TMS is a noninvasive FDA-approved treatment for major depression that uses electromagnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells within the brain, similar to those produced by a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine. The electromagnetic pulses stimulate nerve cells in brain areas known to control mood.
Family Care Center consistently achieves TMS outcomes that surpass the industry benchmark for severe depression by over 65%.
What are the current TMS outcomes for depression?
Following industry best practices, FCC assesses the effectiveness of TMS outcomes in treating depression using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). Scores on the PHQ-9 scale range from 1 to 27; higher scores indicate more severe depression and lower scores indicate less depression.
A recent internal study showed impressive results among patients who completed an entire course of TMS treatment. 42% of these patients reached a final PHQ-9 score of less than 10, indicating symptoms are mild or non-clinical. In addition, 82% of patients achieved at least a 5-point drop in their PHQ-9, and average PHQ-9 scores decreased to 11.1.
The future of TMS at Family Care Center
We recently expanded our team to include Dr. Sabrina Bradbury-Segal, Director of Research, to grow our research endeavors and communicate findings.
“I’m excited to join the incredible team at FCC! The integrated approach to mental healthcare lays the foundation for exceptional research. Our innovative and evidence-based TMS treatments place FCC in a unique position to be leaders in the field, and I’m honored and thrilled to be a part of it.”
Exciting times lie ahead for FCC as we continue to advance TMS research and embrace our role as pioneers in TMS outcomes and this transformative therapy. With a focus on improving the lives of those grappling with depression, FCC remains committed to delivering innovative and effective treatments to individuals across Colorado, Tennessee and Texas.
