Amber Fortenberry, LCSW

Clinical Therapist

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been practicing for 13 years in East Tennessee. I am originally from a small town in Campbell Co.,TN, and graduated from the University of Tennessee with both my bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work.

Once I experienced the community and beautiful areas of Knoxville, I decided to make this place my home. My special areas of focus include anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, trauma, ADHD, OCD, LGBTQ+ support, and grief. I use several different treatment modalities to help clients in their journey, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I am currently working to complete my certification in EMDR. I enjoy offering education on generational trauma cycles, attachment, and behavior patterns to help better understand ourselves and those we interact with every day. Everyone’s path is unique, and we can work together to tailor your therapy experience specifically to what works to help you reach your goals. I have had some amazing opportunities to work with individuals of all ages from diverse populations and backgrounds. I have 6 years of experience working in the school system as a therapist, experience working in residential and inpatient facilities, and community mental health. Working with teens and adults has been my current focus, and I welcome all without judgment. My goal is to empower my clients with the skills and support they need to navigate a world that can be stressful, overstimulating, and overwhelming. I prioritize creating a safe emotional space for people to process, grow, and navigate life’s complications. In my time outside of work, I love a good book, podcast, pretending I’m in a galaxy far away, dog/cat hangouts, thrifting/antiquing, getting lost on a walk, and daydreaming to music. One of my favorite quotes I like to remember during harder times is by Carrie Fisher: “Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What’s important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it, and eventually the confidence will follow.”
