NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (Dec. 9, 2024) — Family Care Center welcomes Dr. Andrew Mellon, a board-certified psychiatrist, to our New Braunfels clinic. Dr. Mellon’s expertise enhances our dedication to providing high-quality mental health care in Texas, addressing the significant barriers many communities face in accessing psychiatric services.
Mental health concerns are on the rise across the state, and access to psychiatric care remains critically underserved. In Texas, more than 1.7 million adults experience mental illness, yet the state ranks 48th in mental health care access. Dr. Mellon’s addition to Family Care Center in New Braunfels helps to provide essential care for patients in Comal County and the greater San Antonio area.
“My goal with psychiatric care is to provide accurate diagnostics through detailed interviews that fully consider a patient’s life history,” said Dr. Mellon. “This approach allows me to create personalized treatment plans focused on evidence-based medicine, minimizing side effects and ensuring affordability.
Dr. Mellon earned his medical degree and completed his psychiatry residency at Texas Tech University HSC El Paso. He is currently accepting new patients for adult psychiatric care and offers services, including but not limited to:
- Treatment of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, bipolar mood disorder (BMD), borderline personality disorder (BPD), Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and patients experiencing suicidality or self-harm behavior.
- Assessing and diagnosing mental health and psychiatric disorders
- Prescribing and managing medication as needed
Dr. Mellon emphasizes the importance of collaboration in mental health care, recognizing that comprehensive treatment often involves working closely with therapists to address specific challenges. “Many treatment plans include working with a therapist on targeted issues. The highly skilled therapy staff at Family Care Center is a major reason I joined the team,” he shared.
